Email Settings (effective 1/14/2008)

January 14, 2008, DVOL has converted to a new email system. It will still support all of your favorite POP3 clients like outlook, outlook express, eudora, mozilla, and thunderbird. However, you will need to make some slight changes in your email client settings. Please see the information below for making these simple adjustments.

Web mail for DVOL will be a whole new interface and system. In fact, we will be offering members two options to choose from and you may switch between them at anytime. For basic users or those who want a simple email interface, we will be offering SQUIRREL MAIL. For those who want a greater range of features, we offer HORDE MAIL. Please find below information for logging in and using your new accounts.

We offer two versions of WEB MAIL, you may use either. Squirrel Mail is for novice users and offers a simple interface to send and receive email. Horde is for advanced users and offers a more robust interface with many more features.

SPAM FILTERING

The new email system has advanced Spam Filtering while still giving the end user control of their own filtering system. Email will now be checked against several major databases for known spammers and automatically matched for removal. In addition, some systemwide filtering has been manually added to get rid of blatent spam that is not otherwise picked up.

To create your own filters, we recommend only the use of HORDE Web Mail. Once logged in, go to your Inbox and click on FILTERS in the menu bar across the top. There you can click on New Rules to create a variety of filters based on words in subject, to and from fields, as well as body of email.

Spam Filtering for Microsoft Outlook Users, Click Here.
Spam Filtering for Outlook Express Users, Click Here.

Black and White List
Also in your inbox, when reading any specific piece of email, you have the ability to black list or white list the sender. Those senders on your blacklist will be discarded or filtered from your inbox.

MOVING YOUR ADRESS BOOK ( Please Read!)
If you are using Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora, Thunderbird or any other pop3 email client to store your address book - you do not need to do anything! Your system remains uneffected.

If you use WEB MAIL to store your addresses, unfortunately there is no easy way to export your address book from the old system to the new one. The old system did not offer any type of export function (unlike the new system we are converting to). You will need to copy and paste your address to a word document (good for backup as well) and then copy and paste them in to the new web mail system. THIS MUST BE DONE PRIOR TO January 14th, 2008 or you risk loosing your address book. Please note, you will need to select which web mail system you are using. Creating an address book in horde does not automatically create an address book in squirrel mail. You can of course create an address book in each system if you so desire.
